The Passing out Parade that was held for 17A stream 1 corp members yesterday, it was reported that 30 corps members were being deployed to Ondo State for their service year, in order to repeat their NYSC Programme for absconding.
Declaring this at the passing out parade for all the NYSC corps members that was held in Akure on Thursday. Mrs. Grace Akpabio, the Ondo State NYSC Coordinator, said that 17 corps members got extra extension ranging from two weeks to three months as a punishment for them. She also said that 2,088 corps members passed out successfully, with three getting state awards for their exceptional performance during their service year.
“Permit me to stress that gone are the days of being expectant of a life-time job immediately after service.
‘‘It is deception of oneself if you think along that line, is better for you to brace up and think of what you can do yourself.
“Do not align with people that put up attitude as if creative thinking and individual initiative ended with graduation, this is absolutely wrong,” she said.
On the other hand, the NYSC FCT Coordinator, Bello Ballama, in an interview with NAN, revealed that farming and crop production will be included as part of the one-year primary assignment for NYSC members from the next service year.
According to Bello, the move was to help address corps members rejection by some corps employers through the engagement of more corps members in all aspects of farming and crop production. He also hoped that it will boost the NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) Programme. Ballam further disclosed that the scheme was, therefore, putting all its farms in good condition, in readiness for corps members to commence its use.
