A total number of 36 graduands of the Federal University of Technology (FUTO), Owerri, on Saturday, obtained a first class degree in their numerous disciplines.
Prof. Francis Eze, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, revealed this new development during the 30th convocation ceremony of the federal institution. Prof. Francis Eze said that a total number of 2,325 graduands were being awarded first degrees, while 438 postgraduate degrees and diplomas.
He proudly stated it out that the institution came first in the Open Education Resources ranking of Nigerian Universities that was organized by the NUC. He added that the result of the 2017 NUC accreditation of its institution programmes showed that all the eight programmes have been recorded with full accreditation status.
Prof. Eze said to further improve her learning, FUTO had introduced Information and Communication Technology (ICT), with the aim of broadening the spectrum of teaching and keeping up with current trends in the education sector.
He said that the same discipline had been used in the payment of fees, registration of courses, hostel room allocation, examination and processing of school results/transcripts, which had greatly improved its efficiency.
“Thus, of all the 45 programmes, only two have interim accreditation status, while others have full accreditation status. We are also preparing some new programmes for NUC resources verification.”
He said that the institution had successfully produced its 2016/2017 set of graduands, who had been groomed sufficiently both in learning and character to contribute to the immense growth and advancement of the society.
