Some suspected cultists have carried out an attack on a police station in Delta state.
The Eku Police Station in Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State was destroyed and detainees at the station were set free.
According to eyewitnesses at the area, the cultists stormed into the Eku Community with guns, axes, cutlasses, and bottles, leaving passers-by to run for safety.
The cultists were reported to have entered the area in their numbers, as they were all dressed in their black clothing with red caps, and enter the police station chanting war songs around 9.30pm on Friday.
They engaged the policemen at the station on duty in a gun battle before they allow all the detainees to go free.
John Ogbokowu, who is an indigene of Eku Community, spoke based on the fact he will remain anonymous said that the perpetrators of the crime were the same Eiye (Bird) cult, and Vikings aka Aro-Bagers cult groups that have been hunting the community since 2016.
“The community had not been willing to do anything to arrest the situation because most of their children are members of the dreaded cult groups”. He said
Since 2016, Eli community has been under intense attacks from suspected cultists, especially Vikings and Eiye confraternities, who were said to have hands in the vandalization of properties worth over millions of naira.
The Delta State Police Command through the Spokesperson, DSP Andrew Aniamaka, has confirmed the incident, said the suspected cultists destroyed several vehicles, revealing that six of them were being detained for more investigation currently.
While enjoining residents of Eku to go about their usual businesses, as everything in the area had returned to normal, DSP Aniamaka has assured that those who were involved for the mayhem would be brought to face the judgement.
“We are not taking it kindly at all, some of the suspects are currently being detained, and we will get to the root cause of the mayhem”
