Gunmen in Lagos have assaulted a vehicle in the Amuwo Odofin area, Lagos State and killed a police escort, known as Sergeant Musa. A sum of N3 million was made away by the gunmen in the process.
PUNCH Metro has reported that The Lagos State Police Command has already detained the gunmen that were involved in the robbery.
It was reported that the Police had escorted two officials of a plastic raw material firm in a Nissan Almera to a Zenith Bank branch at Amuwo Odofin around 2 pm so that they can withdraw cash.
They were returning from the bank after they withdrew money when the gunmen attacked them on Babangida Road, Amuwo Odofin, and shot at their car.
One Okoroafor, who drove the car, and the policeman, were shot by the gunmen, while the third occupant that was inside the vehicle luckily escaped unhurt.
A source, who stays in the community said that the robbers fled immediately after they had taken the cash.
“The attack happened on Tuesday, March 13. Their car was on Babangida Road that afternoon when the hoodlums, who were in another vehicle, intercepted them and shot continuously.
“The car was driven by a middle-aged man. There was an armed riot policeman and another man inside the car. Before the policeman could engage the robbers, he had been shot. The driver also sustained an injury. I heard the survivors saying that the robbers escaped with the N3m they collected at Zenith Bank.”
SP Chike Oti, The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the robbery and the killing of the policeman. He revealed the robbers had been caught and they are helping with the investigation so that they can track down the other members of the gang that have run away.
“The robbers in that incident have been arrested and we have recovered the rifle of the policeman. The suspects are helping the police to track their fleeing member. We are closing in on him.”
