Rivers state Governor Nyesom Wike has accused the federal government of playing politics with the Ogoni clean-up as recommended by the United Nations Environment Programme.

Governor Wike while speaking during the inauguration of the 16.06-kilometre dual carriage Sakpenwa-Bori Highway by the Governor of Enugu State, Ifeanyichukwu Ugwuanyi, in Bori, Khana Local Government Area of the state, Wike alleged that the federal government brings up the Ogoni clean-up exercise at every election year to deceive people of the community.
According to the Governor, the community which played a pivotal role in the economic development of Rivers State and the country deserves more than it is getting at the moment.
He said;
“I am not like Federal Government. They promised you they will do Ogoni clean-up. Has it been cleaned? I promised you road, have I done it? So you can see the difference between our party and their own party. The difference is clear.
“When election comes in 2023, they will start another clean-up. You people don’t even ask question. Why is it a year to election that Ogoni-clean up will always commence? Now that there is no election, are they doing clean up? Watch from next year they will start clean up.”
Mad Man Wike always like to play politics with every situations, is Ogoni clean up a day activities? Use less he-goat…………………..
Oh My Goodness – Enugu State Gov traveled to Rivers State as Guest of Rivers Governor for inauguration of about 10 miles road? What is inauguration – foundation laying ceremony or opening the road because it is built?
I first arrived in PH as a college student 1979 staying until 1985, when I left. If every government since Navy Commander Diette Spiff; first Military Governor in 1967 until 1975 (Gown Regime), had built annually say 20 miles of well planned roads in Rivers’ 54 years of existence, today there would be more than 1,000 miles of road network in the state. But with all the money that have flowed thru Rivers State, PH its many city and nerve center is a depressing town despite the dubious name – Garden City.
I remember doing valuation assignments in Ogoni land way back then the refinery, Onne Ocean Terminal, NAFCON, etc, and seeing how depressed the area looked. Ogoni people are often the most difficult to deal with.
Their intra-tribal squabbles opens them up as pawns on a chess board. From JB Leton – Education Minister, Ken Saro-Wiwa – The Messiah??, The Mitees – Foot soldiers, Magnus Abe, Magnus Kpakol, these fellas and their army of sheepish followers, have continued to present stories about Ogoni issues that goes to line their pockets as PIMPs. The question is never about money but lack of commitment on the parts of the various players and referees to do the right things.
From Peter Odili – doctor to governor – 1999-2007, Rotimi Amaechi – Secretarial-Theater Act student to Governor – courtesy of master Peter Odili 2007-2015; and now Gov. Wike; 2015 – 2023, Rivers State has had its fair share of Clowns wearing Crown in the oil producing state. Yet to make it to the Governor’s Mansion from Peter Odili – Clan of 3 – is now Senator Magnus Abe, who studied Law at UST but was part of Odili 1999 – 2007, Bed of Strange Fellows.
The stories are stranger than fictions – it is a crisis of human capital who instead of doing the job while rewarding themselves, end up rewarding themselves while doing no job. And when they do something no matter how insignificant like this case of Enugu Gov traveling to PH to commission a road project – it leads to crass comments by Gov Wike who is more about DRAMA than making dramatic positive difference. He is a legend doing more than Napoleon ever did – just believe in his antics and antecedents.
