Imo state ex governor Rochas to forfeit properties to government – EFCC

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) said it has obtained orders for the interim forfeiture of some properties traced to the immediate past governor of Imo state, Rochas Okorocha, and his wife, Nkechi which is suspected to be proceeds from fraudulent acts.

Head of the Enugu Zonal Office of the commission Usman Imam, said this known while briefing newsmen in Enugu state yesterday Wednesday September 4th.

Mr Usman Imam said the commission has obtained similar order on a property traced to a former aide to the former governor, Paschal Obi, and the former governor’s daughter.

Some of the properties to be forfeited include a 16-block cum 96 flats and an eight-bungalow multimillion naira estate, hotel, two schools, shopping plaza, supermarket, hospital, and four vehicles.

“We hope to get permanent forfeiture orders on the property in order to return them to the people of the state,” he said

Imam said all the facilities, including the schools, would remain functional as the commission would not like to shut them down for the sake of the students and other users.

  1. Why just a forfeiture? Shouldn’t he be arrested and prosecuted for corruption? This has always been the case in Nigeria. If it was a poor that stole maggi to feed his family he would be locked up. I weep for Nigeria.
