The Ondo State Police Command has detained and taken a 31-year-old man, Hafisu Hassan to a magistrate court in Akure, Ondo State. Who stole chairs belonging to one of the branches of the Redeemed Christian Church of God RCCG at the Isikan area of Akure.
The suspect who alongside his aides now at large have stolen plastic chairs approximated to be at N55,000 was taken to court based on one count of stealing.
According to the prosecution, the offence is contrary to and also punishable under Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code Cap 37.Vol. 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
Mr. Nanjul Amos, The prosecutor, cited Section 320 of the Laws of Ondo State, 2006, and presented the case facts before the law court. However, the suspect who pleaded that he is guilty and has made an appealed to the court so that he can be pardon as he promised not to get himself involve in any such activities again, was given a one-year jail sentence.
Punch has reported that Mrs. O. A. Adegoroye, the magistrate who saw the accused statement as an exhibit from her own perspective, saying in view of the statement, he was guilty of the charge, sentenced him to one-year imprisonment without any option of fine.
A few months ago, it was reported that a 42-year-old security man in Lagos, whose name is Ifeanyi Ileka, was taken to an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for stealing church equipment which cost N760,000.
Ileka has stolen a mixer, 3 amplifiers, and a keyboard which amounted to N760, 000 from Winner’s Life Ministry Church, Peter Street, Ajegunle, Apapa, Lagos. The accused, who resides in Ajegunle area of Apapa, Lagos, is going to face a three-count charge of burglary, threatening violence, and stealing,
Sgt. Olusegun Kokoye, The prosecutor, told the law court that the accused has committed the offence on Nov. 7 at Winner’s Life Ministry Church, Peter Street, Ajegunle, Apapa, Lagos. He said the accused has burgled into the church and stole the musical instruments belonging to Winner’s Life Ministry Church.
Kokoye said that the accused was caught right in the act by Mr. Chigozie Orisakwe who saw him as he was trying to escape with the musical instruments. The prosecutor also said that when Orisakwe confronted the accused over the issue, Ileka claimed that he stole the musical instruments because the church had not paid his salary for quite a number months.
Kokoye said that when Orisakwe has tried to stop the accused person so that he won’t go away with the items, but he threatened to stab him with a knife. The Senior Magistrate, Mr. M.A Etti, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 with one surety in like sum.
