A medical nurse has been detained in Port-Harcourt, Rivers State for propagating the sales of newborn babies delivered by young pregnant girls in her custody
The woman who is known as Kelechi Okamgba, 37, has been accused of feeding on these pregnant girls by accommodating them till delivery and facilitating the sale of their babies, Saturday Sun reports.
According to investigations, Kelechi charges between the range of N70,000 and N80,000 for each baby sold to their clients. She was, however, detained on March 19, by men of the Rumuolumeni Police Station in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, that was led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Kingsley Chukwueggu, who entered her ‘baby factory’.
At the end of the operation on her baby factory, which was carried out around 11 am, five ladies, including four girls that were pregnant, were detained. The pregnant girls were: Chinemerum Orji (18), Obianuju Nze (22), Chidinma Ndukwe (17), and Josephine Chimena (33).
Punch has reported that the accused person in her confessional statement disclosed that her main job was to take care of the women in her house till they were ready to deliver their child.
According to her, based on their agreement, the women after they finished negotiating with the baby buyers, they would pay her between N70, 000 and N80,000 in order to settle the bill for their accommodation, medical treatment, and feeding.
In her words:
“The women, some of their boyfriends bring them. They (boyfriends) find and negotiate the baby buyer themselves. The buyer(s), at the delivery of the baby, will settle them. I, will then give them bill for feeding, accommodation and treatment. That is the reason they are under my care”.
Pointing at one of the pregnant women, the nurse said:
“Like this one, the female buyer they brought pumped her belly. She has already negotiated with the woman and her boyfriend and after everything, I will give them my bill. Sometimes, I collect N80, 000 or N70, 000 from them”, she confessed.
