Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has been released from Kuje prison.

Justice Mohammed Liman of the Federal High Court in Lagos ordered his release yesterday.

In December 2019, the former Abia state governor was sentenced to 12 years in prison after he was convicted of N7.1bn fraud alongside his firm, Slok Nigeria Limited, and a former Director of Finance during his tenure, Ugo Udeogu.

The Supreme court on May 8, 2020, then nullified Kalu and Udeogo’s conviction on grounds that the presiding judge, Justice Mohammed Idris, lacked the jurisdiction to have presided over their case.

Orji Uzor Kalu approached the Federal High Court and filed an appeal for his release. The ruling was delivered yesterday in his favor.

  1. I am very happy for the release of our OUK. I wish Chief Orji Uzo Kalu has learnt his lessons these few months he has spent in the gulag. May the good Lord grant him the wisdom to understand the tricks and deep wickedness which the enemies are using him to perpetrate against his own people. May God open his eyes and understanding to know the antics of the enemies of his people better. Amen!
