A 23-year-old Adeyinka Adelekan who is a graduate from the Ebonyi State University, who studied Geology at the university, won’t be in the compulsory one year NYSC programme in this which commences today, as she got involved in an accident Skiddo bus stop, Ajah, Lagos State.
According to Adeyinka Adelekan, who is an eyewitness, Adeyinka Adelekan reportedly suffered multiple fractures in his brain and after she was knocked down by an SUV, was taken to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi Araba, and is yet to come out of a coma since the incident occurred on December 19, 2017.
26-year-old Saviour Henry who was the person driving the SUV – a Toyota RAV 4, had knocked down Adelekan who was going to buy drinks for herself and her elder sister around 4 pm on that day, after Henry lost grip of the vehicle while trying to dodge a Toyota Highlander, that was driven by one Oluwatobiloba Olorunosebi, 19, from bashing his SUV from behind.
She was standing in the middle of the road, waiting to cross to the other side, when Henry veered towards the median and hit her down. The victim was instantly taken to LUTH when there was no improvement in her health condition, in spite the family spending millions of naira.
The drivers who were detained by the police from the Langbasa division drove without carrying a valid driving license and were arraigned on three counts bordering on reckless driving before an Igbosere Magistrate’s Court.
Punch reported that the charges read;
“That you, Oluwatobiloba Olorunosebi and Saviour Henry, on December 19, 2017, at 4.30pm at Skido bus stop, along Pump & S, Eti Osa, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, being the drivers of a Toyota Highlander with the number plate, AKD 922 EA and a Toyota RAV 4, with the number plate, KJA 582 BW, did drive the said vehicles dangerously on the highway and cause serious injuries to one Miss Adeyinka Adelekan, while the pedestrian was walking, thereby committing an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 18 of the Road Traffic Act Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2012.
“That you, Oluwatobiloba Olorunosebi and Saviour Henry, on the same date, time and place, in the aforesaid magisterial district, did drive the said vehicles without valid driving licences, thereby committing an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 7 (1) of the Road Traffic Act Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2012.”
The defendants both pleaded not guilty to the charges and were granted bail by the presiding magistrate, Mrs. O. Oshin, in the sum of N250,000 with one surety each in like sum.
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) on the other hand, has fixed April 19 for the opening of orientation camps nationwide for the 2018 Batch ‘A’ corps members.
