A woman who gave up the ghost during childbirth at the Internally Displaced Camp of Bakassi Returnees at Akpabuyo Local Government Area of Cross River State on 27th March 2018, has not been buried because her family doesn’t have money to buy a coffin.

The woman known as Enobong Asuquo went six feet as a result of complication she had suffered after she delivered her baby. She was reported to have had retained placenta and post-partum haemorrhage.

The late woman’s husband, Chief Asuquo Etim Asuquo begged with the Government and concerned persons to come to their aid by helping him to bury his late wife who died after child delivery in the Internal Displaced Camp under unfavorable condition.

He also asked for help in taking care of the newborn baby as they have nothing in the camp that they can use to sustain the baby.

Narrating the incidence, the Camp leader known as Etim Okon Ene stated the late Enebong Asuquo went into labour after midnight on a sad day and there was no way of taking her to the nearest health center.

She gave birth to the baby boy successfully but had retained the placenta. which made her bled to death.

According to Ene, the corpse has been deposited in a mud house and has not been laid to rest because there is no money to buy a coffin. He said the Governor of Cross River, Sen Ben Ayade, has come to their aid but they still need more to cater for the more than 3500 families at the camp.

Speaking, Director General of Cross River State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Betta Edu said she mourns with the family of the deceased and the entire Bakassi returnee community.

She then used the medium to summon President Muhammadu Buhari to look deeply into the issue of Bakassi returnees and IDPs by providing conducive homes and source of livelihood for them as they cannot continue to pass through inflicted pains.
