A report came earlier in the news about a protest that was carried out in Okuni, Cross River State last week. Some women entered the street to protest based on the alleged ra.pe of a woman by some group of men right in her husband presence.

Governor Ayade got hold of the information and quickly directed the Attorney General of Cross River State Bar Abang to prosecute the man and all member of his gangs that were all involved in the criminal act.

The gang ra.pe occurred at their cocoa farm in Okuni, where the victim’s husband and brother were both tied up at Gunpoint while The wife was ra.ped by all members of the gang in front of her husband until she gave up the ghost.

Dr. Inyang Asibong, the Commissioner for Health Cross River State, and Director General of Cross River State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Betta Edu last Wednesday at Ikom has gone to console with the family of the gang-ra.pe victim and promised her that though justice has been delayed but the perpetrators are going to face the law.

Speaking, Dr. Inyang Asibong has blamed the Nigerian Police for releasing the culprit and called it very terrible while promising everyone that the Cross River State Government will make sure the culprits are rearrested and face the law. She stated that the Government will henceforth be held responsible for the medical bill of the Lady and push for justice.

DG, Dr. Betta Edu revealed that this is injustice at its peak level and the people held responsibly have to be brought to book. She stated that Nigerian police must carry out their responsibilities.

“You cannot allow the woman go without justice. The woman was gang ra.pe in front of her husband, she and her husband bullied off their farm by the rapist, which is their only source of livelihood. The Governor of Cross River State has called for immediate arrest of offenders and justice for the victim. Cross River State Government will provide every necessary support to the woman and take care of her medical care says empathic Dr Edu who was in tears while addressing the press in Ikom” Dr. Betta said

“Sadly, the major culprit, who was arrested along the process of justice was later released on bail without any sanction from the police in Ikom. She however noted later that due to the timely intervention of the Governor, the culprits have been rearrested and will be charged to court almost immediately.

Dr. LINDA AYADE, who is the wife of the Governor is very hard on this issue, she is against any form of domestic abuse to women or children and has promised to fight for justice to prevail.
