A mother was arrested in Umuahia for setting her teenage son on fire because he stole an MP3 from a neighbor.
14-year-old Prince Odum, of Amuzukwu Ibeku in umuahia north LGA Abia state, had his hands tied by his mother Chinyere Odum after she found out that he stole from a neighbor. She then doused him with kerosene and set him on fire
Chinyere, a mother of three, is reportedly said to be abusive towards her kids. According to her neighbors, she’s been known to always flog Prince, who is her only son, with fire wood. Neighbors also said the family is dysfunctional.
Prince suffered horrible burns all over his body and was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, FMC, Umuahia. But the hospital is ill equipped to handle burn injuries so plans are being made to have him transferred to UNTH Enugu state.
In spite of his injuries, witnesses say that when Prince saw his mother being questioned by the police, he broke down in tears and took the blame. He told officers it was his fault and pleaded with them to release his mother. He also promised his mother that he would never do wrong again.
